Hi,

Can anyone help me. I have a recurring airlock in the cold water system in my bathroom. About every 2 or 3 months, the cold water pressure in the bath, sink and toilet slows down over about a week and then finally stops. The hot water continues to work well.

I then hook the bath tap up to the kitchen tap and flush out the air and everything is fine again. But surely its not normal that I have to do this every couple of months!!

I have had two plumbers visit, both have said it was an airlock and treated it as if it was an isolated problem, the second checked out all the pipes, taps and valves in my flat and the pipes in my loft and said all was fine.

I live in a flat and share a communal water tank with 7 other flats. My plumber couldn't get access to the tank so that's the only thing he didn't check, but according to the freeholder, none of the other flats are experiencing this problem.

Any ideas what it might be and how I can fix it as nobody seems to know what to do!

Thanks
Baiqiongan

sounds like you should disconnect the gravity cold in the bathroom, and have it mains fed from your kitchen. unless the pressure is really poor. they used to have them old style systems due to poor inlet mains, but over the years they have been upgraded and it may be fine now. If not it sounds like the feed cistern wants to be bigger. it may be emptying past the outlet then when it refills it takes in air. this wil only become apparent when the cistern has been emptied which may explain why it happens now and again.

Thanks Mysley,

Both those ideas certainly seem plausable as the flat is about 1930s. I'll check out both options and see what happens!
