No, your age is not a problem, some would say 19, 20 is a good age to start as you are a bit more mature, the trouble is
1, the economy at the moment
2 the difficulty in getting experiance, but this will not be to do with your age, its to do with the one or two man band that forms a majority of plumbing firms and the government apprenticeship schemes that make it very difficult for us
Everyone goes on about college and qualifications but that is no substitute for experience however going to college does show willing
What I would say, is to many go to college and learn the minimum that is required, this will get you know were, you have to take advantage of the college environment and learn as much as possible and hound the lecturer’s/teachers as they seem to set everyone up for the day with an hours work and then sneak off to the tea room
School is a place many pupils are forced to learn by the teachers, college should be a place were many teachers are forced to teach by there pupils
I can not take a apprentice on full time,, I suggested to the local collage that they ring round and try to start a kind on car pool with the local tradesman, to give trainee’s experiance, were stay I or another tradesman could ring up and stay take a lad out couple of days here and there, you get say 20 plumbers in the pool and away you go but all you get is red tape, administration ect so nothing gets done
