Just bought a house and stupidly didn't get a full survey done. It seems the rear extension was built over the inspection cover. When bath water is emptied upstairs the water comes out of the downstairs loo.

A plumber has attempted to unblock it through the loo and used CCTV in the drains.

£1120 later (no it's not a typo) and it is still blocked.

1. Does this sound like a reasonable sum for not fixing a problem? (Indeed he actually made the blockage slightly worse as the upstairs loo waste also comes up the downstairs one!)
2. Is the only solution to lift up the floor where the downstairs loo is?

Many thanks

pipe is blocked, the cctv should of been able to pinpoint to the inch where blockage is. as for charge depends what you agreed on. i'd remove downstairs loo and try rodding from there to next available inspection point

ive seen pipes and manholes covered by extensions before and it caused them to crack and cave in.

Is there no man hole or rodding eyes in neighbours gardens?

Does anyone have experience of dealing with insurance companies and blocked drains? I have accidental damage as well as Trace and Access. Would this cover this situation which may involve taking out a toilet?
Cheers

Stop right there!!
Get on your phone and ring you insurance company up,explain situation and see what is covered and what is not and any excess involved

A lot of drainage companies breeze in charge thousands saying "do not worry all covered by insurance",when in fact a lot of the works are not,if major works required get second opinion and quotes
Your insurance company may have thier own approved contractors
If you are not careful you could wake up next week, with a lot of money missing out of your bank account which will take a lot longer to put back 🙁

Thanks. I have emailed the insurance company as their office is closed over the weekend. The issue is going to be if the toilet and flooring need taking out and whether this is covered. I don't expect the insurance company to pay for unblocking the drain of course.
Thanks
