Can hemp be used with a potable paste on fittings for hot and cold water supply pipes?

Not suitable for use with wholesome (as potable is now known) water as it supports bacterial growth. I use loctite 55.

55 is the way to go havent used hemp for a few years now dont think ive ever had a leak with 55 did a sports hall heating which started of in 2inch no problem and you can use it on gas
