Hey guys I'd like to start once more by saying I'm only 19, been working as a plumber for about a year and a half, I'm working with a guy now who isn't it to bad of a guy just not a great compatibility between us at times.

Anyway, I have a question or two depending if my brain can think of anything else while I' typing.

1. I finished College and passed with flying colors, a while back and was wondering if a level 1 and 2 City & Guilds qualification is the same as an NVQ.
I was told they're nothing a like because you need to accomplish site work to qualify for the NVQ, yet tutors are telling me otherwise.

2. I only ever do Heating Systems, pressurized to be more accurate. I've been doing this now for about 6-9 months. I've only learned how to hang rads and clean up messes. As much as I want to learn when I try I get moaned at for not working. My granddad is paying me to go college again and doing my ACS's. Would it be right for me to go and do it knowing little about Boilers?

1) no city and guilds are a college based book qual, nothing like an nvq

2) you'd stand virtually no chance of your acs without a portfolio of work which you havent got.

youve done a year, keep it up ask if you can do an apprenticship with him one day a week off unpaid thats what im doing. currently level 3 - my boss is fitting more and more kitchens so i'm also a competent kitchen fitter. keep up the good work matey.

As q-plumb says, the NVQ is completely different - you have to work on site and someone comes out and assesses you. What you've done at college is learned the skills - the NVQ shows you can do it in the real world and that's the one you need

All I've been told is that I need either City & Guilds or NVQ level 2, to be working with a gas safe registered plumber to help with my portfolio, and to be able to get to this college and back every Thursday.

The college said I wont need to know a load about Gas because they'll show me everything I need to know and they've got a 98% pass the only ones who fail are the ones who didn't get help with their portfolio.
