I thought I should introduce myself, before getting into trouble by asking stupid questions. I served my time as an apprentice Engineer meny years ago, enjoying the dubious delights of very poor wages and all of the lousey jobs, until at 21 I could call myself a Skilled Man. So I understand the the feelings that are aroused, when some people come along seeking advice whilst calling themselves something they haven't earned the right to do so.
Anyway to carry on I started out working for a company called English Electric ( now own by the French and called somthing entirly differnt) who made amoungst other things Steam, Gas and Water turbines, Locomotives and that brilliant Intercepter/fighter called the English Electric Lightning. The Company went down the pan when a clever bloke called Weinstock took over and made the same sort of decisions as the "Bankers" did recently.
I then moved to Rolls Royce Aero Division in Coventry in the Research and Development Department working on the engines for Concord ,RB2ll , Harriers, and the RB199 (Tornadoes) Finally ending my time in Brighton as a Workshop Manager in the department of Architecture at the University of Brighton. Where one of my roles was to make sure that all my Students completed their courses still with all of their digits still attached to the correct limbs. Whilst all of this time "doing up" the houses we lived in, so I understand a little of very basic Plumbing /Carpentry/ Electrics. The main thing I have learned over the years is to be able to recognise my limitations and to know when to call in the Experts As my User Name would suggest I'm now enjoying life as an "Old Sod" down here in Brighton paid for by all of you good working people and it can be highly recommended.
