Hi ! My name's Jacob Anthony and I'm from Pontypridd in South Wales. I'm 30 years old and want to train as a plumber.

I was wondering what kind of plumbing work do you guys mostly do. Is it mainly home improvement work or do you get emergency cal out work as well?

I am a hardworking person who always loves a challenge and loves fixing things, but as a complete newbie to plumbing what should I be aware of regarding the trade?

I have looked at training with Access Training Wales because they are close to me and they offer finance. Has anyone got any experience with these guys or can anyone recommend any other training companies in Wales?

Thanks for reading this and look forward to speaking with you all.

Jacob

Welcome to UKPlumbersForums.co.uk Jacob Anthony. Thanks for introducing yourself.

what work you get can depend on if yuo specialise into anything such as air con or heating or even renewables

emergency call outs come and go and you can advise on the spot if you csn make it

The little jobs come and often lead to the bigger jobs

Its always different to be honst but you do get the weeks where you have to look for the jobs, i have spent saturdays posting leaflets and/or business cards, popping into letting agents etc

As for the training just make sure you research it as some companies have gone bust and thats not what you want

You will also need to gain experince with a plumber so try and get that ASAP even before your training

just be careful, make sure u read all the theads on here about training

Thanks guys for all your advice, I'm definitely looking to get experience. How would I go about getting experience? I'd love the chance to work with someone and act as a general labour for them to start off with. I am very hungry to learn and I'm very hard working.

Is there anyone on here who can help me get experience? I honestly don't mind doing a bit of hard labour to learn the ropes.

Have you considered fire protection (sprinkler systems)? It's a growth industry at the moment and requries plumbing skills plus a degree of specialisation.
