i am looking for advice on entering the world of plumbing. few questions? am i too old at 33? where do i start? what qualifications do i need and how do i go about getting them? any help greatly appreciated thanks in advance

There's already plenty of good advice / threads on this if you search this forum.

I would say you need to think carefully though, there's not a great deal of work around at the moment.
And don't believe what you read about plumbers earning 80,000 a year - I know quite a few plumbers round my way and none of them are on this sort of money (& this is in the "prosperous south" - lol).

Best of luck though

Not too old (I started 29, am 32 now) - unless your age means you have many financial obligations because no matter which route you choose you're likely to earn almost nothing for a good while. If you've got kids and a mortgage and a job that supports this things currently think very carefully.

my little town has 32 gas safe engineers, the next town has over 60...!! this does not include the guys that just do plumbing, you could probably double these numbers again

asked yourself why you want to be a plumber. and if the only reason is because you can earn good money. you will be doomed to failure from the start. however if you dont mind being splashed in the face with urine, faeces, unblocking dirty gunked up fould smelling waste pipes etc because it will be 4 years before become get anywhere near being gas safe registered. then this is the job for you. because believe me you wont make any money for a while no new business does it takes time and experience.

just speaking from experience

THIS IS PRETTY MUCH THE REAL LIFE OF A PLUMBER!!

If I could just add - the late nights, the last minute cancellations to pub do's, general get togethers & birthdays, the apologies to the other half because you wont be taking her out tonight because you're up to your neck in it. The time you spend visiting custards, getting prices, preparing quotes & slimming out down as much as - only to hear that someone can do it much cheaper

Im sure there will be others who can add to this list :dots:

Just speaking from experience (not available in any colleges or training facilities lol)

Dealing with customers, chasing money, dealing with customers, sorting incorrect invoices from suppliers, dealing with customers, trying to avoid being in two places at the same time, dealing with customers,,,,,,,
