I have a high pitched whistle noise in the house (all of it) it comes at random and without warning at all times. i seems loudest in the bathroom but it is throughout the house

the noise stops when i turn on a tap. or flush the loo. but it can be any tap hot or cold in any room (bathroom or kitchen)

the noise wil the go for a bit (seconds minutes or hours) the suddenly return.

the noise can also just stop itself (which makes it hard to hear)

one plumber we had in said he had never heard anthing like it:confused: (he was visiting to look at a toilet fitting job)

in the title you say water off? does this mean that the problem occurs when the water is off only or does it mean that it occurs and has stopped since you turned the water off?

please clarify

KJ

The most usual cause is a ball valve in a cistern (WC or tank in the attic/loft). Push each one down for a moment and when you get the noise you'll know which one to change. If no noise then it's probably something else!

thanks for the suggestions i wil follow thes up

the noise only happens when all the taps are off and no water is flowing through the system and then only at random times!

it stops as soon as we turn on any tap in the house. all goes quiet and then when least expected eeeeeeeeeekkkkkkkkkkkeeeeeeeeeeekkkkkkkkeeeeekkkkkk:mad:

THANK YOU ALL Found the problem

It is a faulty ball valve in the toilet cistern.

Thanks dontknowitall. good call

not only was this the first place suggested but i was able to recreate the noise

what a relief:eek:.

i was about to replace all the tap washers one by one to see if that helped!
