Evening All,
I'm thinking of taking on an apprentice - my first - probably an 18 year old. I was just wondering if anyone here has recruited one recently and what it's likely to cost. I reckon about £200 a week. I'm hoping for a grant for the local college training.
Thanks,
Jock

Thats a link showing minimum wages which are applicable. You will need to employ them, have a proper contract with paid holiday etc. Also you need to pay them for their day at college too.
Apprentices can be great or awful. I have had some terrible ones over the years and some really good ones. I would suggest a trial period first before committing. See what their attitude is like, can they get out of bed in the morning, do they always call in sick on a Monday etc etc. Skills can be taught, its very difficult to teach someone to have a good attitude and good work ethic.

Check how active they are on social media. If very active - avoid imo.
In any case have a policy on phone use. It is the absolute bane of apprentice / youth hire.
