i would usually pass the building work over to a builder friend, but in current climate i am thinking of having a go at changing from normal gas fire to a hole in the wall fire, has anyone done one before and how did they find it.

you mean a builders opening?

yes but bricked up at th bottom, leaving a shelf to take a slot in fire, i suppose all fires are hole in the wall fires,in what we call builders opening, thanks for that ! confused or all clear, doesn't seem to be a lot of these fires going in, or at least the people on here don't be seem to be fitting them,,any help on the subject matter, appreciated !.

you have to form the opening with bricks dont forget you will need a lintel, you will need to sparge the top of the opening either side to make the correct chamber into the flue read the mi,s regarding min and max space behind the appliance to large a opening in the catchment space will promote spillage
