Just curious,

I need to change a 2 port valve, there is an iso just above it but not below, if it's a sealed system can I not just shut off the iso and replace without draining, and if a vented system bung the feed and vent and replace without draining?

It's a 2 floor house and the valve is on the ground floor.

If its sealed you could turn off the iso dump the pressure & snatch it with a towel underneath...

There's a risk of that iso leaking tho, even if you look at it

Can it be isolated at an external pump or boiler isolator ? normally if you find one iso then it can usually be totally isolated,,,
If its a sealed system then you have no vent pipe to bung , when you bung the cold feed n vent is an open vented system

Is the system pressurised or open vented ? I take it the iso u found is on the other side of the zone valve to the boiler ?
If valve is on ground floor then trace it back to boiler theres bound to be sumit, just watch out for manual bypass valves lol

There's a manual bypass just above it with an iso valve. the boiler and pump are before the iso valves to the 2 ports.. I'll have to have a proper look but I think I may just drain down. Chicken I know but would rather keep my job then try and be quick

I think it's vented but I didn't really take a proper look as was just there to confirm if the valve was faulty or not. The iso is on the same side to the boiler ... Strangely enough

Heads been changed and the valve has since seized. It was freed but have recommended to get it changed

you could freeze the side without the iso, either spray or a electric freeze kit, that would be better as you could freeze both sides of the valve at the same time

I wouldn't trust freezing as space is limited (behind a kitchen cupboard under the sink near the floor).. so with pulling and banging pipes apart I wouldn't trust the ice plug.. my freeze kit isn't electric, just the arctic pro kit

Try isolating anything you can & bung the feed & vent if it is open vented and crack a nut open on the mv with a tray below it. Can't go wrong, - if the water doesn't nearly stop eventually, just drain then if you are scared.
