Evening guys, hoping someone can shed some light on my question. Today being the hotest day od the year I had 2 radiators red hot when the the only thing on was the water. The thermostat is turned to it's lowest. All other rads were cold. I'm very confused. Thanks in advance

Sounds like a faulty motorised valve. It's letting by and therefore heating a couple of rads.

Easy fix, but prob best to call a heating engineer/plumber.

Very common problem.

You are probably getting a back feed from the water side. Your system has been piped wrong. You will need to get a plumber /heating guy out to have a look. Probably easy fixed but not without seeing the system. In the meantime just close off the valves at the radiators to stop them heating.

+1 the return from your central heating is connected in wrong place causing reverse circulation, could be the motorised valve jus let system cool turn on hot water and feel the pipe to central heatin from motorised valve if this gets hot its letting by and needs replacing

First question: Has it always done that or has it just started to do it?

Obviously if its just started, something, probably motorised, has gone wrong or sludge has blocked something.

If its a combi could be change over valve leaking.

Now here is something that happens a whole lot. As Bernie has mentioned, you may want to establish how long it has done this. It could be they are plumbed into the water circuit, common on older systems for the bathroom, or a bypass rads (Heat Leak) Turn those 2 off and see if another 2 heat up. If they do, then small amount of let by possibble ! Or if it is an S plan (You have 2 x zone valves) the bypass may be thr problem. When engineers upgraded systems, many forgot to install a bypass, the subsequent repair engineer then fits the bypass in a poor place and you get flow where it was never wise to flow. What type of system, is it y,c, s or combi ??? That should help get closer to the cause
