Hi all, I have a customer who is complaining of not having enough hot water.
Its a father and 19 year old son, 2 bed cottage, 1 bath, 1 basin, 1 kitchen sink.
The old cylinder is 450 x 900 indirect, although there is no boiler in the cottage, there are pipes connected to the coil which seem to run upstairs, but as i say no boiler, no rads ?
he currently heats water via immersion and was asking for bigger cylinder, for more hot water as at the moment its not really enough for one bath.
my suggestion was for a new 450 x 900 direct cylinder, with 27" immersion, but keep getting conflicting answers from suppliers on whether this will give customer enough hot water.
am i right ? or should i go for bigger cylinder ?
look forward to any answers thanks, malcolm.

You could go for a cylinder with two immersions on the side. That way they will have choice of quantity and speed.
I keep saying it on here, but the Willis external immersion heater has been used for decades here and gives near instant very hot water and at any quantity you require - entire cylinder if you leave it to heat long enough

I have just reread the post. You say there is "two pipes from a coil to upstairs". As it is a cottage, is there a back boiler for an open fire, or stove, or range? Sometimes this can be direct (no coil) to cylinder, or to a coil with a f&e tank.
Another issue in such a set up in a bungalow is the heat in the hot cylinder will reverse circulate over to the boiler, if one exists there. Need to check where those go to

like best said probably an old vent and feed from a solid back boiler or old gas circulator like a carena e type. the answers budget dependent really. can they spend or are they a bit strapped ?

thanks for replies, just looking for the simplest way to give them more hot water, not trying to find the cheapest way, but also don`t need to spend a fortune, which is why I thought a new 450 x 900 cylinder and 27" immersion would be the answer.
