Hi all
Please could you help me with this advice.
I am concerned about the ho****er which is too hot. If you use any ho****er with no cold, it is scolding. My system is a Baxi solo HE. I have Honeywell a thermosat and a program. also i have hot water cylinder(L641a themostat.
I have changed the temperatue on the cylinder ,which is from 60C to 50C. it not seem to change. We use the ho****er by the programmer between 6am-8am and 4.30pm-8pm.
Thanks for your help

the cylinder stat could be knackered, your cylinder should be set at 60 not 50, put it back to 60 as at 50 you could have legionnela forming. How hot do you reckon the water is? ? do you have any form of measuring the temperature at the tap ?

The cylinder is just after a year. I have turn set that back to 60c. I dont have a measure of way at the tap, but it will scold anyone without cold water. Is it something to do the heater central switch in the combo baxi boiler?
Thanks

i would also say its the cylinder thermostat, no matter temperature the water is from the boiler the cyl stat should be turning it off at the set temp. i take it the cyl stat is on the copper of the cylinder and not on the foam?

You could try turning the control knob on the boiler down to its lowest setting, also try reducing the cylinder stat further. one other thing, you haven't left the immersion heater on by any chance?

If your cyl stat is fitted real low down you will get very hot water at the taps ... Stratification I believe you call it :)

Little bit of usefull info I've used a lot to explain away poor combi performance ... Water is too hot to touch above 48degC ... So if your cold incomming is less than 13degC a combi will struggle to give 'Hot' water on full flow!

I would buy a thermometer you can get cheap ones and check the temperature of the water, if it is indeed at 60 then i would advice you get blending valves fitted to get the water down to around 41 degrees at the taps which is a comfortable heat.

Yes. The cyc stat is actualy is on the foam, right near the bottom(not the copper). The hot water DOES switch on or off when i turn the cyc stat to 55c to 60c. So i guess the cyc stat is working. No, Ive never used the immersion.

Are you saying there's foam insulation between the cylinder thermostat and the inner copper wall of the cylinder, polar1? There shouldn't be!

Truth is the further down the cylinder it is fitted the hotter the water is at the top draw off point! If you have 60degC 2/3rds down you may have 70/80 degC coming out the top draw-off depending on the boiler circulation temp! Can you upload a picture of the position of the cylinder thermostat polar!?

This is the bottom of the cyclinder..i see what you mean as the plumber seems a patch of copper under the stat.

faulty stats

that looks cut out to me, should be 1/3rd up from the bottom and set at 65degrees C. dont drop it too low as this can encourage bacteria growth, much higher can lead to scale build up
