hi all, got an interesting canundrum for you. i have recently been converting some out buildings into a walk through horse shower/dryer/tack area.
The out buildings are surrounded by stables and also has a vacant bungalow on site, the bungalow has full hot and cold facilities, the owner has asked me to tee off the hot supply to the bungalow, take it underground and into the out buildings so the out buildings has a hot supply, this is now all complete and working fine.
however, he has now asked if there is a meter on the market that will give him the information required to work out how much hot water has been used in the shower area so that the cost of total usage can be split between the bungalow and the shower area as he is going to employ a horse groom who will live in the bungalow, hope thats not to confusing.

its not confusing. im unsure about a meter that works on hot water, maybe a question for the manufacturer. has the owner thought about the heating of the water shared cost? with energy prices rising that would be more my concerne. also there would have to be sufficient measures taken for back syphonage. i wouldnt want to bath in horse drool!

the horse shower is a mira shower bar and all taps are just garden bib taps with non return valves,
his idea i think is. to measure the amount of hot water used and then reimburse the tennant for the oil used to heat the water

Water meter.
Use the specific heat capacity of water times by the amount of water used times the efficency of the boiler

Get my drift?

it will be difficult to work out accurately as to do it fairly will require more than simply splitting the bill per litre used as the temp inside the underground pipe will lose heat quicker than the indoor hot water so it will use more energy to heat the tank which will cost the inside customer more,

im thinking its not really possible without installing two flow meters one for the horse area and one for the dwelling, and then we still have the central heating in the dwelling to account for

Ecowarm, will meter be fitted to the tee for the horse area and then this would only measure kws for the horse area, he would then still have to figure out total kws used per tank of fuel for the dwelling and horse area then deduct horse area and pay the differance, hmmmmm sounds like a good idea

just had a thought, will the oil boiler come with a rating, ie kws produced per litre of oil

For all of this hassle. Would it be cheaper to fit a cheap boiler that can run off oil? And then buy an oil meter on to the second boiler and charge by the litre

You could prob fit a LPG combi for 900 in an out building

1 rad. Ferroli 24kw. Bib tap and alot of dov's
