Hi All, (apologies if this has already been covered in the forum in advance)

I am planning in servicing a 1993' Worcester 240 combi (under supervision of course), the cust has complained that when they run a bath the boiler cuts out and they have to reset all the time. No issues with the CH operation, any suggestions? for an 'L' plate Plumber learning the magic arts of boilers (nice ones pls!)

Check that the spindle stays out and keeps the microswitches pressed, if not then it'll be the diverter diaphragm. However, it does sound as if there's a lockout. In this case it's more than likely the secondary heat exchanger (common on these) fiddly to change but not so difficult.

thanks .. in my limited experience i am thinking diverter valve .. then .. another forum buddy said maybe the heat exchanger .. which could make more sense, as when the bath hot tap is turned on calling for max flow it upsets the old girl and she switches off .. yet when the donwstair hot tap is calling .. nothing happens and shes quite happy .. bet its not been flushed ever :(

Big problem I've had with these is them being installed on an open system and fitted upstairs! For some reason they just don't like the small head of water! I'd agree with the muck issue aswell! Also heatsink drying out specially under the pump overrun and the h/w sensor! :)

Hi , same as some of the other guys have side . you may have to change the diverter valve , I think that the repair kit is no longer availl, if lucky you could remove and flush out the dom heat exchanger, remember this boiler is almost 20 years old and some parts may not be avail, Good boiler in its day but getting ready for replacement.

If the diverter valve fails to open the boiler wont lockout. The diverter is at the front and can be observed as the hw is run. Does it hit the microsw? If not, a repair kit is available, however i think its from an ariston. It contains a diaphram and stuffing box in a pack. Is the 240 overheating? If so check it has a bypass e.g. a rad without T.R.V. Check the pump overruns (it has a pump overrun stat) check pump. If you go for secondary heat exchanger, i believe this is obselete.

Hi I have had similar overheating problems with my 240bf it became apparent that the gas flow was not adjusting the flame was on full, I tried several things the last one being the thermostat on the pipe just below the "white" water to water heat exchanger i removed this and took the wires off there was slight corrosion on the connectors i cleaned these and applied fresh heat sink compound boiler now works perfectly .
