I hope someone can help.

i have a combi boiler vaillant turbomax, when I turn on the hot tap it just doesn't get hot, it gets warm but never boiling, when I run a bath I have to use just the hot tap because if I turn the cold tap it goes freezing. The only way I can get boiling water is to turn the cold tap on the basin when I'm running the hot tap on the bath.

It's also the same on the mixer shower, I first called the shower manufacturer who said t sounds like a boiler problem rather than the thermostat in the shower as the water comes out hot when restricted flow or cold water from another source is running.

i hope that all makes sense and someone can shed some light on my issues

thanks

nick

How old is the boiler? When did it last have a service? Has this happened all of a sudden or has the problem gradually worsened? Is the water hot if you only turn the tap on a little bit?

I have only lived in the property for 7 months and its always been a slight issue but it has got worse the last few months. The boiler was serviced last month and the engineer didn't have a clue about m problem and my trust in him was left pretty short. When the tap is slightly on it gets warmer but never really boiling apart from my upstairs basin tap. The kitchen tap is hit and miss with temperature.
i believe the boiler is around 7 years old

This could be a number of things ! do you live in a hard water area ? is the system clean ? it may be a problem with gas supply, as you see lots of maybe's !! call in a GSR who is good with combis.

the sudden change is most likely due to the cold weather reducing the temp of the incoming water, making it harder for the boiler to heat. Jts gives sound advice, and it could be down to the boiler neding serviced, the heat exchanger cleaned etc. However you will need a GSR to have a look at it. If you post your location someone may get in contact.

Hi

I also have a Vaillant combi boiler which sometimes gives hot water and sometimes only lukewarm. Water temp varies everywhere from shower to kitchen sink. Boliler only 2 years old and plumber reckons working fine. He reckons it could a faulty cartridge in a bath and shower mixer tap. This has recently started dripping quite heavily and this has coincided with the temperature changes. Does this make sense?

Or could it be something else?

Any advice would be great.

Many thanks
Rob

do you have problems with hot water when you open other taps? if not then it could be a cartridge.

Hi Galaxy

By that do you mean when more than one tap is on at the same time? I have tried this - ie cold water sink on at same time as hot shower - but seems to make no difference.

Otherwise the intermittent hot to lukewarm water occurs throughout the house. Any thoughts?

cheers
Bob
