I'm looking to replace a 10+ year old Pulsacoil 2000 unit in my apartment that is starting to show intermittent issues.
I've looked around and inquired here and there. One piece of advice is to replace this storage system with an unvented cylinder. No more heat storage, just store the hot water that I'll be getting from my shower. Installation would take some extra effort, but drainage pipes in the kitchen should be suitable and close enough.
But what I myself am looking for the most is having a little more control. Most boilers/cylinders seem to be just that. A gigantic isolated cylinder full of hot water. No gauges that tell me how hot or cold/full or empty they are, so should one of us want to take a shower in the evening, it's always a guess whether there will still be enough hot water at all (the problem at the moment is: usually not!).
The Dimplex Quantum caught my eye recently, it seems to give a much finer level of control over the amount of hot water left. But although they put it on the "unvented cylinder" section of their website, it looks like this is actually a heat storage unit again? dim plex co uk /products/water_heating/unvented_cylinders/quantum_cylinder/cylinder_features.htm (URL broken up because the forum thinks I'm a spammer :-( )
In short: Anyone any experience with these, good or bad? Other brands/models that offer a little more control?
