i think the use a different thread so the washer travels a longer vertical distance with a turn of it and then you just put the lever on the correct spline position

Not 100% sure though

Yes Tom thats it, I've fitted two sets of the Swirl ones and they have a kind of spiral thread that moves the washer down in qaurter turn.

Wouldn't fit them again though as I had trouble with them not seating.
 
Fitted these last year and would never do it again. Dripped constantly and would not seat. Lever taps are now only about 20 quid, so why bother anyway?
 
Don't bother with them they open up on there own if theres decent pressure, i also had a few where the lever head came off with half the valve, i used to just get a cheap pair of trade save lever taps from pts which are the same price as the conversion kits and take the head and valves out and use them to convert as they are ceramic disk
