Switch off heating.
Wait for it to cool down a bit
Switch on heating and see which side heats up as the hot water flows.
One rad with 2 lock is often deliberate.
 
Yes, hot flows from the boiler then returns cooler.
Like I say its often deliberate, think carefully if you are wanting to put a trv on one side👍
