Hi, can anyone tell me in laymens terms how to get rid of an airlock in my radiators have bled but downstairs dont come on but upstairs do i have a thorn boiler very old and a grundfos 3 speed pump on a open vented system. cheers, hiretools.:)

may not be an air lock, may be a problem with the pump. Are there any motorised valves on the system?

Anyway, what i would do is put a hosepipe on a drain on the furthest point of the system downstairs, draw off the CH water whilst it is also filling from the F&E Cistern, it should draw out the air, you should see bubbles coming out, leave it on for a while if need be poss 30 mins should be more than enough. normally 5 mins sorts it.

take it from there, let us know

hi
have you tried balancing out system via rads

hose pipe goes on a drain cock, a drain point at a low point of system

have you moved the motorised valve manually? did you move the arm quickly or slowly, what happens if you unhook the arm?

call a plumb if u check all these or your messing with elec and a pro needs to look at it

Try shutting off all the upstairs radiators (one end of each rad will do). This will apply more force to the ground floor rads and may clear any blockage there (or it may not!).

If no success, leave the 1st floor rads all shut off, and then try shutting off one ground floor rad at a time, until only one rad is open in the house, if no success. (Do not shut ALL rads off!).

Hope this helps! If it doesn't help, your problem is not simply an airlock or light blockage.
