Hi all. just thought i would ask this question just to see what answers i get back. i know i takes years to get good at plumbing. thing is i have been doing plumbing full time for about a year now and i seem to learn something new on every single job i do. i do most jobs on my own as the boss does industrial work constantly. is this a normal part of the learning curve? how long did it take the rest of you guys?

been doing plumbing for 5 years decided to start up on my own after christmas i also learn something everyday, and i hope it continues, you can never know it all in plumbing even finding the best route for a pipe run can save you time and money. by taking your time and finding the best route is vital.5 years is no experiance to some plumbers.but also experiance doesnt gurantee a good job, so just take your time and most of all if your hapy with your job your customer will be .

Im into my 18th year now and still always learning. There is always new materials and products on the market that you may be unsure of after using certain materials and products for years.
Ive always preferred to use more traditional methods and materials and can say have never used flexi-pipes. Also i never use Hep or push fit unless there is no other way to get over the pipe run or the customer wants it. To be honest i think any plumber who always uses Hep and flexi-pipes is a crap plumber.
Unfortunately as im a perfectionist, this has in the past held me back confidence wise, as i want every job i do to be better than the last. With the experience i now have i now tackle any problems as i come across them, rather than look for the problems before i start.
It takes many years to become a good plumber and even more to become a brilliant one.

wow thanks guys those answers were far more detailed than i was expecting, thanks very much, hopefully in 20 years time it will be me answering this type of question instead of asking it, cheers,

James
