Hi all,

Been to see a boiler tonight with a busted expansion vessel.

The boiler is a worcester bosch 25si - LL (at least 5 yrs old)

its basically rusted up and created a small hole in the top of the expansion vessel and thus is constantly dripping and will only get worse.

Just wondering how long you guys think it should take to replace the vessel (after draining down of course)? never had to replace a vessel on these boilers before.

Cheers guys

if its leaking surely he cant leave it in....

Aye but it has rusted up on the external he says.

All depends where its located, not looked at one of these boilers, if its near the front at a side itll be a few hours, if at the rear id take the boiler off and do it that way providing the back is open.

All depends where it is, if its located at the side of a boiler itll be a few hours. If its at the rear im guessing itll be quicker to remove the boiler from the wall and do it that way.

Re: having trouble with the whole situation

hi there, i applied for this site and other to do with plumbing, wednesday just gone i got a call from this company, he asked me some questions and said he can pop around that day.

anyway he came round and had a chat for 3 hours talking about how good this company is.

he showed me and my partner the dvd of the course it looked really good.

and now im having second thoughts about it the company.

the bloke came back for me to give him the £100 enrolyment fee and handed the stuff over. he said for me to sign some paper work. ive just red the terms and conditions and it dont sound very convencing.

also ive tried the cd rom and it dont work proberly, its too slow.
it doesnt install probely and have working links in it.

please help as i dont know what to do.

i think this company is a con as u share out more money and dont realli learn from a disk. its better off going college ALOT CHEAPER!!
reaserch proberly b4 going with this company.

thankz

yeah its at the back of the boiler. upon first looking at it it does look like id have to take the boiler off the wall to replace it, i was really just hoping there was an easier way to do it though. never mind,

Id think that is the quicker and easy way, dont know for sure though, never done a vessel replacement.

Seems to me alot easier than taking out the whole heat exchanger and what ever else they've slammed in the way on this model.

Well today was the day i did the vessel replacement, i ended up just taking the boiler off the wall. i was pleasantly supprised when i opened the box to the new vessel to find they also gave me some new fibre washers. (i had ordered a washer kit aswell because the worcester technical help line told me they dont supply the washers and id have to order a washer kit to. slightly worrying that they didnt know that either)

started the job at 8.30. replaced vessel re-filled system AND serviced the boiler plus all the little bits that take up the time then went into town to return the washer kit i didnt need. I was finished and back home by 2pm. not to bad for me.

Expansion vessels all depend on manufacturer and model, its either straightforward(vaillant) or the boiler comes off the wall or you fit new vessel externally, depending on problem.

Maybe it would have been easier if you lifted it out from the top of the boiler, providing that there was sufficient clearance at the top and depending on the route/position of the flue.
