In addition to the thread I did a few days ago, I have to call the customer back tomorrow with a price.

I'm going to quote to change the pump and valves but I will not be freezing the pipes, I will be draining the system. I'm doing the job on Saturday morning and that is my only job booked so I can take my time, any problems filling up will be a good learning experience.

Access to the pump is fine and drain off right by the back door. The only possible problem I can see being filling up and getting everywhere hot.

How much would you guys normally charge for this?

Thanks

I would bung it. 9 times out 10 done and dusted in 1hr with good access.
Start draining open systems and you could be talking another few hours to remove airlocks if hit a bad one.
Charges? Depends. Parts & labour. Purchase price of materials- bung a bit on and give yourself at least 2hr labour.

Didn't think could bung if changing valves?

Yeah 2 hours labour is what I was thinking. £35.00p/h? Too cheap to some I guess but setting the price myself is not something I have a lot of experience of doing.

isolate both valves. Bung system. Change one valve then the other. Stick in pump. Remove bungs. Bleed system.
Jobs a guid yin.

Company I used to work for charged £180inc vat if the valves held, me personally I would charge £100 plus parts it will allow for problems filling, 9-10 times it will go sweet as a nut so you can say it went better than 1st thought so charge a bit less, earn a few extra brownie points.

I'd charge 140 to change pump and valves. It's a drain down so cover yourself if there's any unforeseen problems. And don't forget to shut all the rad vents that you opened when draining!

Will attempt bunging, I won't feel any pressure as i'll be working for myself and any mistakes can be dealt with. £100 plus parts sounds about right, i'll be happy with that.

It's going to be £100 minimum. If it takes me 3 hours it's still more than I get for a days work.

If this is an old system , beware if it doesn't refill properly if the cold feed is bunged up. May be a good idea to warn customer first .

if the pump is on the first floor get the hose tight on the DOC with a bowl or tray under itand hook the hose up high, ive slung mine up over the porch roof or in a tree , so you only drain upstairs as said shut all the rads up there as well that way minimises the amount you need to drain as soon as you start draning give it a minute and open the first connection as soon as the water has gone get started youll hear it start to suck

Grundy 100
valves 6
inhibitor 8
labour - up to you :)

prob around the 200 mark for a quick change. If you use a cheap pump then starting at 150ish.

As AW I would be going in about the 200 quid mark knowing should be done in about 1-2 hours.

Bung it. You'll be back in the van in 30 minutes counting your loot :) got to be a round hundred plus bits
