Hi,

I ask this question following a little DIY job to clear out my bathroom sink traps. Having got a slow draining sink I unscrewed the two connections (one to sink and one down to waste) and remove the trap and cleaned everything out as best I could.

Everything seems to have gone back together nicely and the sink drains as it should.

However, it made me wonder how robust / hardy the solvent weld plastic pipes are. Most of mine are actually hidden behind the internals of the vanity units. I was extremely careful not to move them much whilst removing the trap as not to cause any issues but there seems to be some flexibility with them. However, I know with the 21m overflow pipe, even a slight movement can break elbows etc.

Thanks in advance...

You’ll probably snap the pipe first at the fitting before damaging the glue

When it comes to solvent weld plastic pipes, they are generally quite robust and designed to handle a fair amount of stress. However, it’s always wise to be cautious, especially when dealing with hidden pipes. Solvent weld pipes have a bit of flexibility, but they are not designed to be frequently moved or bent. Over time, even small movements can weaken joints or cause cracks, especially if they are hidden and you can't easily inspect them.
