Nad

hi,
I have spent 3 years in college doing Plumbing level 1,2 and level 3 in gas i havent finished level 3 in gas i got 2 months leaft, but now ive realized thise courses were almost useless as i can not get a job or become gas safe because they are just some city and guild courses not NVQs.
Could some one explain to me the best way to get Gas Safe regestred?

I have asked my course tutors but they all have different answers its really confusing. some say to find a job and do the NVQ in gas which costs £3600 i cannot afford this and if any one knows some kind of grant or funding that i could apply for please let me know

thank you

The best way to get gas safe registered is to get a job and learn by proper training.
Unfortunately in the well quoted "current climate", the chances of that happening are very slim.

The not so good way of doing it is throwing more money into a deep pit, learning very little except harsh lessons in life.

There is no easy way i'm afraid. You may be lucky but the odds are stacked against you.

Hi Nad,

Do you need the NVQ's to become Gassafe registered? Having spoken to a friend of mine who is Gassafe registered he did a 6 week C & G 6129 course, paid for his assessment and became registered. This was originally with Corgi, I don't know if this makes a difference? Do you know if Gassafe have a minimum qualification requirement before they will consider you for registration, or is it solely assesment based? What have the tutors been telling you?

ive done the gas safe ticket, i did the city n guilds 6128 1st, also the wras and bpec unvented too, get some plumbing training before you go on to the gas, thers a lot of gas engineers who havent done any plumbing at all, it beggers belief but its true, its all done to cost really, ring around some companies 1st to see if you can get a placement then go sort out the gas course, certain companies will charge £1000.00 for a placement, i kid u not so be careful ....if you want to get the nvqs on top of your c+g ring the nvq no of the website and they explain how to do it..

you dont need to be nvq registered to do the gas safe ticket, you do however have to do the gas safe safety ticket 1st. then the ccn1 etc,
ring you local college and find out, i recently passed all my gas exams and am awaiting my crad, hooray!!!
