How to connect 1/4" tubing

I have an undersink water filter that I want to remove. How do I securely and easily connect the in and out tubing which are 1/4"?

The filter will have a push fit coupling on each end, to release the tubing you have to depress the lip on the end of each coupling while also pulling the tubing out which can be quite tricky. To reconnect just push the tubing into the fitting as far as it can go. There's probably a release tool out there for it but I usually use a very large fork.
