Hi, looking for some advice on getting a plumber gas safe registered please.

Background info-

He is level 3 qualified plumber, been gas safe registered before under previous employer, very capable and we have no hesitation in investing in him.

Questions-

What is the usual route to getting GS qualified and on the register? I can research this through the trainers but from reading on here I think they will try to sell us as much as possible!

Is it a different GS registration when under the company? I want the company to 'hold' the registration and of course be able to advertise with it.

What are fair terms for both parties - do we the employer pay for the training in return for x years employment commitment from employee? (obv he will also receive a pay rise)

What are usual gas enineer pay rates for-
a- full time employment
b- subcontracted

What are standard rates for -
a- boiler services
b- gas landlord safety certificates

Any advice from anyone in the know would be much appreciated! :) Thanks

he becomes registered under your company banner/name and carnt do work outside you company ie foreigners legally, think its 60 odd quid to add him + vat to urs if you are gsr otherwise you will have to have the company registered aswell ud have to check with g/s he also has to have his acs ccn1 plus appliances which can cost anything from £800 in collage to £5000 fast track both take a yr or so to get ,anything else ie wages prices is up to you

if your guy has been registered before he is a cat 1, therefore he only needs to go to a college or training centre to do ACS assessment only about £80 per item plus 1 x £65 certification fee (if he knows what he is doing, most think they do then cant pass the exam) or if he needs re training then assessment about £850 for 4-5 days depending how quick he is, then £67 to add him to your register if your firm is already Gas Safe Registered, or £428 if he needs to register himself as a business, although i dont know why he would want to do that then work for you with you using his registration, not good for your firm either as if he walks you cant do gas work

Thanks guys, that's all really useful.

Our firm isn't GS registered, we want to have the registration under the company name not in his name or we can't use the logo and advertise hard for gas work (we already use GS registered subbies) That's why we wondered about having a written contract with a commitment of at least say 2 years service from him if we pay for the training and registration, with a clause that if he resigns before that time is up we can get a percentage of our investment back. Fair enough if he did walk all we could really gaurantee getting back is a weeks wages as we pay a week in hand like most employers, but I really don't see it coming to that. My partner has worked with him before for several other firms. Any ideas for a fair deal to both parties?

My name's Sophie BTW! :)

re a clawback clause, in Scotland it isnt worth the paper its written on, if he agrees and signs and then hands in a weeks notice you will then need to send him an invoice, you CANNOT touch his wages for this, i tried this when i was in charge of 35 guys and intended a sliding payback within the first year, the HR department told me to get it signed if i wanted but we would invoice the guy when he left as we couldnt touch his wages without his written permission to recover the money, (written permission to recover the money from his wages had to be sought when he told us he was leaving, it couldnt be part of the original agreement, and you could only claim for the training/assessment not the total bill if you paid wages for his time to do the training (which is fair enough) so in reality we were looking at clawing back £850 in the first month, then 1/12th less per month for the yr, in reality it never got tested as nobody left within the first year, maybe i was such a great boss haha
