how to get nvq 2 ?

Hi

After some thought I decided to look past the fast track plumbing courses and have enrolled at my local college. I am working towards a c&g tech cert level 2 at the cost of £650 (much more affordable than fasttrack so im led to believe).

However, the college does not have nvq status and have said that if
I want a nvq level 2 I would have to look for an outside source?

Basically I just wanted to know what the portfolio should comprise of? if I can collect evidence by my own means or do I have to be employed? and if it is possible to be externally verified in someway, even if it means paying extra.
