How to get the NVQ level 2 without being in the trade

I'm a 27 year old swimming pool engineer and I've enrolled on a plumbing level 2 technical certificate. I am obviously not currently in the plumbing trade but i would like to do the NVQ level 2 as it is a superior qualification. I don't necessarily want to work as a plumber at this point, as I cannot afford the pay cut to be a trainee. If i was to get onto the NVQ level 2, would I be able to be assessed doing the necessary works in my own home? E.g. replacing my bathroom or my parents bathroom etc?

I enrolled on the course to add another string to my bow so to speak and give me more career options, whether that be within the swimming pool industry or if I decided to move in to plumbing full time. Any ideas or feedback would be appreciated.

welcome to the forum,

apart from the wet stuff in the hole, what has a swimming pool engineer have in common with plumbing?????

in other words, i am a hvac engineer and i am thinking of doing an nvq in nuclear physics!!!!, same thing really, they both involve heating.

not being cocky here, but i dont see how you can do an nvq plumbing in your current job.

Don't be put off by the replies. Have a read around the forum and you'll realise why people have replied like the have. It's not helpful to you, but there are many many posts like yours and I suppose many people object to the selling of the industry by fast track providers promising great riches and flooding the trade. Just use the search function and type 'nvq2' or 'fast track' or 'want to be a plumber'.

I think all the replies in this thread should be removed and all posters given a warning. The thread starter is just looking for a chance in a tough world. It's hard out there to get a start in this industry and he was just looking for some honest advice. Instead he was berated and ridiculed and I think everyone who posted should be reprimanded for what they have done. Just as a matter of interest, did you contact the college? It would be good to know what they say...can't see them turning you away!
