My dad is 51 and a self employed plumber, doing most things like bathroom fittings, boiler installation and services amongst many other things. He had problems with some nerves in his arms so had to have an op, which the surgeon botched and now his nerves to his triceps don't work, so whilst he can move his arms he has no power. He is now finding work incredibly hard but feels lost as he has only ever been a plumber since early 20s... as I am not a plumber its hard to give him advice, what kind of 'less' manual work could be doing within the industry? He is gas safe etc. Thanks!

Just a few initial ideas:
  • Could he hire an apprentice. If I was young I would jump at the chance for such proper training
  • Have you thought about him selling his expertise online. Ok the clever gas and pressurised stuff would be out but there are thousands out there that clearly need help with basic tasks
  • Get qualified as a building inspector
. . . Or perhaps some combination of the above, and others.

Very Best of luck,

Roy

If he wants to remain in the industry then some of these would certainly put less of a strain on his arm:

Teaching plumbing/gas might be a good option?
Gas safe inspector/technical helpline?
