The taps in our bathroom look like fairly normal ones, but I can't get them apart. I unscrew the index cover and undo the screw underneath, but can't remove the handle. It doesn't seem to be just stuck; it feels really solid and all four taps are the same. The shroud just turns without unscrewing.

Any ideas?

we could do with a picy or do you know make, style 🙂

Here's a picture of one of the bath taps. The basin taps are the same, just slightly smaller.

Unfortunately, I've tried that with no success. I might try some Plus Gas, though, but it seems very odd that all of the taps are stuck so solidly.

If the WD40 route doesn't work then put some heat on it and give it a little gentle persuasion. when you have the head off you will probably need some stilsons to get the valve out if its being a nuissance already.

Its not uncommon for the parts of old taps to be "welded" together. I have come across this often doing repairs and renewals in old houses

personally i whould sling them, they look crap and past there sell by any-how, but that is only m.h.o.
skrufix sell these for £17 so best take them off and replace for some new ones. is exactly what advice i give to a customer.
treat yourself, good luck.

They are quite scaled and marked and they look a bit dated now. Go and treat yourself to some new ones.

Dated is good. I like dated. 🙂

I don't like leaky washers, though, not that I've got a leak, but I want to be prepared.
