Ideal Evomax 80

Hi,

I hope someone can help with my boiler. I have an Ideal Evomax 80 fitted in my house (which does seem like overkill). I've been told that this actually a commercial boiler and therefore is always on so that heat is always available on demand. Is there any way to turn this always on facility off so that it only fires up when there is demand from the central heating or water. Its still doing its thing now even when the temperature is 30 degrees plus. My gas bills are massive!

Yes you should have controls even if it’s a programmer and a room stat also your house must be massive as I’ve just put a 60kw model in a 32 bedroom nursing home

There is a "summer mode" setting which switches the boiler to hot water only.

Surely the boiler should only be running when there is a demand from a thermostat on the hot water tank, and the programmer/timer is on.

I think its just trying to identify which control it is...... The thermostats need to be on for heat to be pumped to the radiators and underfloor heating. House isn't that big by far! I don't even know why its been put in the house - probably got a good deal!

I tried summer mode and it also witched the hot water off. I'm now beginning to suspect its not been installed correctly. I agree the boiler should only run when there's demand, but, and I'm not a heating engineer, I was told by the last person we had out to look at it that as its a commercial unit, it keeps an on demand supply to speed up feeding the radiators etc. I'm beginning to think I've been BS'd!

They should all be different circuits so you should have at least one programmer (3 channel) two room stats (maybe more depending on ufh setup

Should be plumbed and wired for independent control of each so you can just have one

Your boiler installation manual mentions it has an 'Opentherm' connection, and also a switched live connection. Normally using one of those enables it to be connected to a control scheme to tell it when to come on. This doesn't seem any different to me from a normal domestic boiler. Perhaps worth getting a different plumber in to review the way your boiler is controlled?
if you're saying you have to deliberately switch the radiators on to get hot water, that smacks of a fault somewhere, like a faulty motorised valve etc.

Sounds like you need somebody half decent with heating controls.
Dont think it would take much to get it under control and save you big time on the gas bills.
