Hi, I have just had the diverter valve changed on my HE30 by a plumber, it took a few days to settle and has been working better than ever for 2 weeks but only yesterday it has begun just supplying luke warm hot water. It had lost pressure so i topped it up with the loop but didn't really improve it. When the diverter had failed it was firing and running fine but you could feel the heat down the ch pipe but the symptom now is that it fires and runs not really heating the water up then goes off although the hot tap is still running. This continues to happen without any improvement to the hot water temperature, there is no heat coming down the ch pipe. The plumber didn't seem keen to assist and just suggested coughing up £1500 for him to supply and fit a new boiler, unfortunately not an option this week! It is 6 years old and only ever been serviced by this guy who just checks to see if its running efficiently and its had 2 diverter valves, a pcb and a ignitor thing.

does the boiler constantly fire up on and off if so then prob blocked plate exchanger get gsr engineer to clean or replace. i seem to have found a few gsr's will tend to just say it is knackered and get you to replace rather than fix as a replacement boiler pays more. get a gsr who is willing to fix it.

Before doing this I would make sure the expansion vessel is charged with air when the boiler is empty, especially with you saying its loosing pressure, that's a sure sign the vessels is not charged. Plate heat ex changers are expensive, a few pumps with foot pump doesn't cost to much :)

Flameworx, I agree with you that loss of pressure could be down to a depleted expansion vessel but this would not cause the hot water issues with this appliance, the hot water issues described are very likely to be a blocked plate heat exchanger quite possibly by debris disturbed while draining down to replace the diverted valve.
