Ideal Imax W60 - repair bill eeeekkkk

Hi guys, just a bit of feedback required before I ring Ideal. Boiler 8 years old, 4 months ago I have replaced the whole flue because the inner aluminium tube had corroded through on all sections including the tube inside the boiler casing. Cost was eye watering.

Now got called out and a leak is coming from the sump, get the covers off and there is a hole in the sump and condensate and gases coming out. Gave all my spare fan heaters to client and rang for a replacement sump and its £2K but comes with a free heat exchanger.

I mean, what is going on, we expect some corrosion and all but to scrap a boiler after 8 years is a bit rich.

BTW - checked combustion and looked pretty good considering its age.

Any other makes of boiler out there that don't dis-integrate ???

Damage was probably caused when the inner flue perished. Causing excessive condensate water to run back through boiler. Check other components for damage too.

Still a very poor outcome.
Had a 6 month old Vaillant combi with flue elbow o ring dislodged. Damage nearly cost of a new boiler. As condensate had run throughout the boiler. Luckily, I didn't fit it.

BTH. the boiler looks like a train crash. When it was raining water was coming down the outer tube dripping into the boiler casing. The vertical flue terminal is a top hat, inverted with a hole in the middle. I wish I knew more about how they design these things as its beyond me as to how its supposed to work .

Just change imax 80 for all of the above reasons. Not worth messing with. Customer has thrown thousands at this over the past 5 years against my advice. Changed it for Vaillant.
