fixter1

Just been out to this heating working fine call for hot water diverter moves over boiler fires after about 30 sec pressure gauge starts bouncing up and down dumps hot water down flow pipe removed head put it in hot water still the same now is it plate blocked or diverter mechanism ?. Thanks Marc

Normally I'd say plate, but this sounds like it could well be both. If you take the plate off and have a look at that first, then try cleaning it out if it's blocked. But the chances are if that's blocked, the diverter valve may well be in poor condition too.

I don't think the parts are too expensive for these, so might not be the end of the world if you have to get both. Alternatively (and favourably), isolate the gas to the property, obtain a large sledge hammer or axe and beat the crap out of it until it falls off the wall in an unusable heap of scrap metal on the floor. Most Isar's need this treatment the most out of any fault.

Thanks Arran.. Ill take plate off and clean but like u said most prob have to change both and yeah if it wasn't a mates boiler and he don't have much money I would put a hammer to it he's had nowt but trouble with it

i wondering why the pressure guage is so effected, sounds like pipe to expansion vessel is blocked, what does the AAV look like

does the hot water come out okay untill the prv goes and it dumps water, if so i dont think its either diverter or plate heat exchanger

ah wait i just re read thought it said 30min not secs, sounds like a blockage, plate heat exchanger
