i have a problem with an ideal 24he isar, when running the hot water the rads get hot, the lever on the actuator head moves forward to the hot water position and fires up fine, does the whole valve need replacing? not familiar with isar's never worked on one before

You do not want to get into the habit of working on these boiler either :D
not bad to work on ,trouble is one fault can lead to another or it tends to be unreliable so you tend to get the blame

It valve in correct position ,it will be the plunger change over pin sticking going though the diverter valve from the motor, you can remove and strip out and clean and lubricate with high temp silicon grease or just replace diverter body if you wish
Obviously if you remove and find dirty from unclean system water, were not flushed out correctly on possible boiler change over, that will require correcting also to prevent situation happening again and this boiler does not like dirty systems

As above poster stated this sounds to me like a choked diverter valve cartridge. I find it's the most common fault on the isars along with the knackered pcb's. Personally I replace the cartridge on all occasions, this guarantees a definate fix as opposed to just cleaning the cartridge.

Cheapest way to replace.... This boiler has the same diverter valve as the 'baxi bahama', ideal don't sell the cartridge on it's own(they sell the complete diverter valve at greater expense) as a spare however baxi do, so the best way to go about it is phone baxi and get their part no. For the 'diverter valve cartridge' for the 'baxi bahama', order this part, it comes with a key to remove old cartridge and fit new cartridge. Incase u are worried about buying baxi parts for an ideal boiler, please don't be, they are both the exact same 'honeywell' diverter valves. One company is selling u the spare u need(baxi) and the other company is selling u the complete valve in order to get the bit u need(ideal). I know which company I trust more

Thanks for the advice, as soon as i opened the cupboard door and saw an isar i informed the customer ( who is also a friend) they have got a bad boiler. New built property only 3 years old so may be picking up some more work from the estate!

Been told that the cartridge is not available on its own for the model i need, its the one with the grey actuator head and its different???? can you shed any light on this
