blocked secondary heat exchanger is a definate possibility id whip it out and check it

Hello,

I have an Ideal Isar boiler and it has leaked a couple of times now (warm water from inside boiler). I was told by BG that is was the filter that was blocked???? The first time was a week after it was fitted then due to planning people I had to get it moved and it hadn't leaked for 1.5 years until this weekend. The BG guy said that the filter is blocked again with some rubbish and that it may be due to there being a slight dip in the flue pipe (it travels about 10 metres and generally has a slight slope back to the boiler apart from a tiny dip). He says I need to get the boiler lowered by a couple of inches so there is no dip, is this correct? They cleaned the blockage out (think near the bottom of boiler) and all this black stuff came out. Could this be a problem with the flue?

Cheers

ok but i look at the pressure gauge and its on 1.5 but when i turn the heating on it jumpes up and down like theres air in the system but the flow and return pipes are hot.

it says in the book i need a new dry fire thermostor

could this be causeing the problems if so how come its ok on hot water and the flow and returns get hot?

thx for the help

When you say diverter cartridge, do you mean diverter valve, diaphragm.

L9 if my memory serves me correctly is a low or no flow fault through the heat exchanger . Check the pump it might be sticking .

cant be the pump as there is a towel rail on the system and its getting hot and theres hot water.

This is an extract from Ideals fault finding procedure for the Isar

H9/ L9 (Flue gas overheat)

Is the system vented and all isolation valves open ?

Is the PUMP operating correctly ? Ensure flow through system.

If no then vent and fill system and open all isolating valves.

If yes then check resistance across the flue thermistor terminal pins.

At 25c expect 9700 - 10200 Ohms

At 60c expect 2400 - 2600 Ohms

At 85c expect 1000 - 1100 Ohms

If these values are correct then inspect heat exchanger for blockage or damage to the flueways. Clean or replace as necessary.

If not replace the thermistor.

L9 is either pcb or dryfire stat, fault finding also says to check thermister values. Check you have at least 1bar pressure in the system. To be honest It can be anything from electrodes to cleaning out the condensate trap which fault finding implies later on and thats what i'd do first. Undo the inspection panel at sump and ensure u can pour water thru sump, it gets caked up here so chip away. Then clean your condensate trap out (replace it m8).
