Got called to a Logic + today, boiler not working. No gas it says on boiler. Investigate, gas at meter but not at boiler. Blockage I think to myself. Find a blanking cap in meter, so inform customer who reckons they are in credit but previous tenants are being chased for bad debts. So obviously been blanked off by mistake. Tell her to ring energy company and landlord to sort, as I'm not gonna go messing as it is not my problem.

Now I've got the landlord on it me to take the cap out cos they have made a mistake at N power, but again I have said no until I receive proof that it has been a hiccup as I'm not meddling around as the cap has obviously been put in by someone for a reason.

Has anyone had owt similar, cos I'm getting close to losing my rag with this idiot landlord and would you get in trouble for removing the blanking plate without permission (I reckon you would).

Essentially that's what I've said, but they are adamant N Power have no idea what they are on about. It's like Dynamo walked past and the meter magically capped it's self off.

I am very weary of customers who want me to reinstate appliances - I always ask for the paperwork why it was capped off. some try to pull fast ones as other engineers have failed an appliance and hope you wont pick up on the fault

Don't believe a word they say stick to your guns , paper work in black and white or it stays

To my mind no one would cap off a meter and not leave paperwork as to why, there is more to the story than you are being told

New tenant?

If not then it's the tenant's issue not yours or the Landlords! The only reason I know of a blanking disc being fitted is because of a previous visit by 'Transco' (can't remember their new name) regarding a reported fumes or gas escape? :)

Never heard of supplier caping meter they just turn it off in the street. That's been caped by transco or an engineer who's found a fault on the system. I'd have uncapped it found the fault, rectified and charged accordingly

Well N Power rang to say it was not on their watch and they are speaking to Transco to establish if they did it. I have reinstated the appliance, I did a safety check there last year so was the last engineer on the job as far as I'm aware. Tenant said they had hot water till yesterday then it wasn't working when they got in. Couldn't find any signs as to a reason to blank it off.

Bloody weird one this, landlord has gone mad and been taking pictures of the blanking plate. Ha ha ha, just a typical day for me. Always get the weird jobs.

I'd be very nervous if I found a blanking plate in the meter for no apparent reason. I'd just leave it there and walk away from the job, personally.

I don't know about other suppliers but BG will change the meter to prepay due to debt - I believe others do the same. Rather then disc the meter.

However, if the property is empty when the meter is changed then it can be common for engineers to disc off.

What type of meter is fitted and how old?

Problem you've got is if you remove the disc you then need to carry out a full check of each appliance.
