Just found a leak on the inlet pressure test nipple. Never showed on a tightness test. Just about to leave doing my final checks and I caught a smell of gas. Rubber was in 2 pieces. One to look out for on these boilers.

Spoke to ideal on this today. They dont understand how it didn't show on a tightness test. Back tomorrow with a new valve going to test if only leaks over 20 mb the govenor went to 24 before locking out may explain why it didnt show on tt.

I cant understand how u could smell but couldnt show on tightness, did u use it after doing the test?

I install about 3 of these a week, thats quite worrying

Installed loads logics. It's more annoying when u drop washer but still have screw in hand than loosing both.

When you have checked inlet pressure and put back screw just put gauge back on. If its leaking pressure goes up! Ldf is a pain on these especially if close to worktop or in unit. If being serviced properly and there is a smell of gas it's the nut just below fan....

First and last thing I do in any property is a tightness test. Never showed on either. Test nipple wasn't touched. Smell of gas on leaving.

Ideal seemed to think either a. Freak occurrence b. Only passing at higher pressure than 20mb.

Either way give the nipple a quick spray before leaving!

Was back at this today to fit a new valve. Again didnt show on a tightness test. Raised it up to 26 and it dropped to 20 and levelled off. Looked at the valve seems the install engineer caught the seal putting the nipple back in. Slight nick on it was passing above.20mb. One to watch out for.

i was sitting next to my motor home the other day and got a whiff of lpg ldf on the barbque point didnt show it but was defiately there as after a nip up it stopped

Probably such a small leak, it did not show on your manometer, especially if it was a water gauge. An electronic manometer might have shown up a slight drop,, but not enough to go searching. It was probably because you stuck your head in the boiler that you caught the smell. Never liked test points with rubber o'ring's. Always check with LDF on boilers even on the bits I have not touched.
