New house - Moved in a month ago - Last night I switched the immersion heater on in the bathroom which heats the bathroom water. The switch has a light on it which came on for a split second and the went off. As this happened several ceiling lights went off in the house. I tried to trip the circuit back on on the fusebox under the stairs but it wouldn't reset unless I switched the immersion heater switch off. No bath for me last night...
I tried it again this morning and the same thing happened - the light came on for a split second and then tripped the fuse.
Haven't had any problems with it before but we did have the fusebox under the stairs changed last week as it was very old ('50's). The immersion heater set up looks to be less than ten years old.
Someone suggested it may be because of the hot weather... Any ideas?

Hi alcatraz, quite often when a new consumer unit is fitted they tend to show up problems all over the place as they are far more sensitive than older units, your thermostat could be faulty regardless of age,the problem could be at the switch for the immersion or a faulty immersion, get a spark or a part p plumber to check it out for you !!

Stevens hit the nail right on the head there. This is a job for a sparks.

It wouldn't have shown up on the testing after the new consumer unit went in as they only test up to the switch.

Should be a pretty straightforward job.

You probably need a new immersion element... Get in a plumber
