We all know we should be testing the quality of heating system water and the consentration of the inhibitor if any at the time we carry out a service ? Boiler manufacturers are asking for this on the service benchmark service log . Are you all doing it? , What are we all using ? kits are expensive and this cost will need passing on ? what do you consider a fair price for this test I'm charging £60 for a straight forward service up to £100 for service and landlords cert + parts this test will add more time to each job and cost of the test with 80 + boilers to do it's adding a large cost and feel it's no really justified especially as the cost of living is rocketing and people are struggling , your thought please gentleman. Regards kop

Just another 'loophole' manufactures can use to get out of a warranty claim.
God Forbid the day when they test the water in a system and blame the installer .

The amount of carp they expect us to do and fill out on their warranty forms, Gas pressures, FGA printouts & next will be litmus test on the condition of the water in the heating system.

No I don't. £70+VAT service. I'll have to be charging £80+VAT soon if I had to do testing too and that'll just price us out.

I have the Adey testing kit for when I require it. But at the cost of replacing strips only use it when I need it.

Installs I usually put 2/3 Fernox F1s in.

The cheap inhibitor doesn't have the chemical to show it's present, hence why it's cheap. If you put cheap inhibitor in and test it'll show as no inhibitor. I can confirm this, as I tried it on my own system.

All boilers i've fitted and maintain I require them to have an inhibitor top up every 3 years of Fernox F1 on the servicing. Buy the stuff in bulk now.

Yep, I attended a WB training course, and they said they had to use more than it said on the bottle to produce a result, can’t remember the exact figures. They also showed interesting jars of water when using different flux.

Sentinel ,Fernox and Adey are definitely the better products in my opion and remain active longer only last week I serviced a 5 year-old Worcester CDI classic and had to replace a leaking Aav the heating water was clean and had the chemical smell and silky soft feel of a decent inhibitor present . My Dad did a test of all the different inhibitors in jars over a number of years. To be fair, even the cheap one worked.

We used to use Adey. However we had issues on two installs where a manufacturing defect on the EcoFit Pure meant the HEX went. However as per the norm Vaillant wanted to do water tests anyway. They said the PH was too high on one install. I mean the water was clearer than tap water.

Apparently the dependant on what inhibitor, can change the PH of the water. Fernox is the only inhibitor which is PH neutral (Or so i'm told). So just used that ever since.
