Insinkerator leaking after install

Hi All,

I've just had an insinkerator installed and it's leaking water. The leak is happening through a hole in the top of the pipes next to it and the hole looks like it's supposed to be there. If I turn the insinkerator on whilst water is draining, it sprays up through that hole. It only sprays up for a second and it's only if lots of water is draining, not if I'm just running the tap, but I assume I should be able to turn the insinkerator on when the sink is draining, since that's the point of it. I'm wondering if I can just block that hole off, and if so, with what?

Can anyone help? I could get the plumber back that installed everything, but if it's just a case of blocking that hole I can do that myself.

You need to get the installer back.

What's in the 13A socket, it's not overloaded is it?

The socket should be fine. It's got the insinkerator which probably does suck a lot of power, but the other two are for a little pump and uv light which are part of an RO water filter.

I was hoping to get some idea of what should be done because I'm not sure the plumber will know what to.

It is a design feature of that fitting. It is supposed to provide an air break ( regulations) on top of a stand pipe. Your installation is not suitable for one of those due to the flow of water in being higher than the flow out, created by the fall of the waste pipe That's why the installer needs to sort it out by changing the fitting in my opinion

If the hole "looks like it is meant to be there" then don`t go blocking it, was there any parts left over after the install?

Not that I'm aware of. I only supplied the insinkerator and the building firm supplied all the pipes and they didn't leave any bits behind.

As last plumber says that fitting is designed to go on top of a washing machine standpipe , the hole is to allow air in not water out as is happening in your installation they couldnt of checked it very well after installing it to have missed that happening

Faulty install I'm afraid!
That fitting is designed as mentioned for the top of a pipe not there. Also them drain hoses need to installed correctly not flat!
Was the plumber qualified???

I suspect one of the drain hoses is leaking actually. I had a different guy that I hired directly put the RO unit in and he said the drain hoses should have jubilee clips on them and the white bit that screws on should probably have a rubber seal inside. He wasn't a qualified plumber, just an RO specialist, but he didn't have a very high opinion of the work done, which is partly why I'm asking about it really, because I'm in two minds as to whether I should complain to the company that did it all and ask them to put it right, or shell out again to try to get someone more competent.

The company in question has done other plumbing work for me that has been less than great. I don't know what qualifications the guy has because he's just someone that works for the building company that installed my kitchen, but he mentioned that he used to install boilers for the council, so I assume he's got some qualifications.
