Hi everyone,I have recently experienced a problem with my cold water supply to my bathroom sink. When I turn on the cold water tap the water flow intermit tingly reduces to a trickle then back to normal then so on. Opening the tap further causes the trickle to become an dramatic shut off which can be heard through the pipes, then flow, then shut off etc etc. The only recent change has been the installation of an electric shower. Having no knowledge of plumbing the more layman the explanation the better. Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Hi guys, thanks for the replies. Ok, I have had a look at the pipework in the loft and the shower water supply is diverted at a right angle BEFORE it gets to the tank (on an upslope if that matters. I say that because nothing else is effected). The bath shows no signs of being the same and the taps are normal open close turn types, not lever etc. Nothing flash. Hope that might shed some light.

If the only problem in the house is one tap, I'd look at that tap, if its only just happened and is localised then start there.

I'd start with changing the washer as it may have become dislodged or if its a disc type tap, swap them over (using flexi connections if fitted)if this cures it, easy fix.

It's a tap that I have replaced just recently, I can hear the Aaaaaahs already. I replaced the washer so that's new. I'm not sure what you mean by a disc type tap but I will check that out. Would a disc type problem cause this intermittent shut off to the point where it quite literally sounds like the flow reverses for an
instant, really quite forceful and sudden?

Sounds like a blockage on the supply to the tap, or a faulty tap.
I'd take the guts out of the tap and see if the same thing happens.
