Hi All

I'm very pleased to announce that I have secured an interview for a plumbing apprenticeship with Balfour Beatty on Monday.

I was wondering if anyone has any advice for me. I know this is a massive opportunity as its such a big company and the education will be second to none

Any help is great

Thanks
Charlie

Good Luck. Great opportunity with a company that covers a vast range of plumbing / mechanical services. If you have not already? Read up on the company and its service prior to interview. Show enthusiasm for the challenge ahead.

General interview advice (based on the fact that I know very little about plumbing!)

- be friendly, but professional
- go in with the attitude that you know you can do this job, you just have to convince them of that during the interview
- try to keep to the point when answering their questions
- if you can't answer a question, be honest and tell them that rather than trying to bullsh*t
- be prepared to ask them questions too, e.g. what kind of role can you expect, what are the future prospects etc.
- don't ask too many questions on things like sick pay, benefits, holidays etc. It looks then like you're only interested in yourself where they want to see what you can offer them
- try to get eye contact as much as possible, particularly when they're speaking. There's nothing worse than trying to talk to someone who's not looking at you, it makes you think they're not listening.

Good luck!

James

I used to work as a recruitment consultant so im sure ill be ok, but im abit nervous as iv never had an interview for a trade, all my previous interviews have been for office jobs.

Also does anyone know what Balfour Beatty are like as a company??

I'm of the opinion that - carefully and sparingly used - humour goes a long way but with strangers and customers.

Until I know someone, I always aim it at myself to save offending others.

well done Charlie1 try to arrive at least 15mins before interview be clean and tidy and be prepared to state why you are the one most suitable for the apprenticeship.Good luck for Monday🙂regards turnpin

Never go empty handed

If you like, can give you two of the site generators nicked off one of their sites a few months ago,as a jester of good will, tell them if they give you a start ,they can have the jcb digger back that went missing from their Bognor site last Feb and will return a box load of their tracking devices, removed from some of their missing transits 😎😱

Seriously good luck, hope interview goes well and leads to the plumbing apprenticeship you are after, will keep my figures crossed for you ! 🙂

But if you hit a quite spot in the interview, mention you possibly know a man,who may know a man,who can get some of their compressors back if they are getting short 😀😀

imho

got a mate who works for them as a gas pipe fitter.
hes around 50 and is retiring in the next couple of years he says.
been earning around £60k p.a. his advice was, dont take the gas certs as they pin everything on you if owt goes wrong, act dumb and let someone else sign it of...his words. not mine.

Majority of interviewers are generally poor. My advice is stick to answers with specific examples even if, inevitably you are asked a hypothetical question such as; What would you do if....?

I had the interview yest, I think it went really well, they seemed to like me and the apprenticeship sounds really good, its a contract working for the met police!!
they said they will let me know in about 10 days. Fingers crossed and I will let you know how it went!
