Is 35 to old then?

I have just read the the depressing story of the 40yr old.I am 32 and am thinking of starting the level 1 certificate then level 2 and hopefully get into the industry and get my 6089.Is it worth me doing it,i hear everyone saying they`re crying out for plumbers????

I`m glad i am not the only one who is in this boat.I have just had some encouraging news from a nice chap called nick,he is 33 and on his final year and i think he`s going into the industry without any problems.Keep your chin up and keep slogging away i`m sure you will be fine

NO 35 is not too old why would it be ? It is just a question of earning little money for a while.. while you build your skills up. And no no one is crying out for plumbers anymore sadly. It will be virtually impossible to get employed by a company at your age though . Good luck with it all guys as I have retrained at 27 yrs old and am self employed just scraping by at the mo. feel free to pm me anytime and welcome to the forum.

I am going to sign up with a local college and get my level 1 and 2 but am just seeing whether its worth doing at my age.I think You need to get experience to get your NVQ(6089 cert) but if you cant get a help up with a plumber then is it worth the money trying.AAAAgh

If you dont mind me asking how are you getting into the industry,i mean are you working with a plumber cos i heard you have to be working with someone to get your NVQ`s etc?

No mate you can be self employed but you definately have to be in the industry to get it and there is a lot to do for it ! got two years though so long as I am earning who cares if I dont have the full nvq nobody ever asks anyway., I am now working on my 6089 then I will have the full nvq. There is also no level 1 .

Not really, I have gone to college to learning plumbing level 2 full time 2 full days and 1 half day in the week, gives to time to learn and have a part time job, there is 3 older lads on the course around 30, the 16 year olds coming out of school dont care, dont want to learn and not interested so you can get a head learn better.
