Basically what the title says.

My point is that Libya have used cluster bombs against targets.

Many countries have signed a treaty not to use them the USA is not amongst them.

So, is it right to use anything and everything in your arsenal to wage war or should there be a limit?

Do you think certain civilian casualties as are friendly fire incidents are inevitable and providing there kept to a minimum they should be accepted?

Remember this post is not about the political will of governments or Iraq Afgahanistan etc.

This post is about what weapons should/shouldn't be banned....

OK, heres my view:

We should use any weapon in our arsenal to prevent civilian losses and losses to our own troops. Certain civilian and friendly fire incidents are inevitable and providing an enquiry has happened and measures are put in place to prevent these then we should accept them. Not play the blame game but prevention.

If an enemy has decided to put a missile base or communication hub in a hospital then this is a target, unfortunate but the balance of lives lost against allied lives saved must be taken into account.

Should have a lively debate here.....

A nice one for a Sunday afternoon............

Not much of a debate from me unfortunately, leaving politics aside, if we have it we should use it. Its all about saving the servicemen at the front.

At the end of the day its all very well saying what weapons can and cant be used, but someone has created these weapons when you follow the trail back to the manufacturers you dont have to look more than a couple of hundred miles from your front door. The British Government makes Billions from the manufacture and supply of arms to countries all over the world including mines. As long as there is a demand they will be made.

Many countries have banned the use of cluster bombs, Have they destroyed them, of course not they have sold them to third world countries where unless they are an oil producing nation no one cares what happens in that country.

So is the country who uses them to blame or the people who sold them. I personaly would say that if I were in a position where I was defending my self I would use any and all weapons available to me, good or bad. The important fact to remember with war is the only people who suffer are the innocent civilians women raped, men killed, children traumatised and turned into orphans.

So I say that the weapon manufacturers of the world should all be closed down but unfortunately the human race has been proved to be an aggresive self destroying race and it will never happen

anyone ever watched zeitgeist ? its a documentary which makes some very good points, how america is the true terrorists in this world and that every war they are in is pre-planned and is just about profit at the end of the day through manufacturing of weapons and oil.

If your open minded then I'd recommend this, it also claims all religion is made up to govern the public into behaving good. I found it interesting, but I'm not saying everything in it is 100% true but it does make you think.

The Zeitgeist Film Series Gateway | Zeitgeist: The Movie, Zeitgeist: Addendum, Zeitgeist Moving Forward

watch the 2007 and 2008 ones, the newest one is a lot of bull. Some scenes of real life war casualties which some people may find disturbing.

Lt.Gen. Ferguson (officially) said of gas warfare in the Great War: “It is a cowardly form of warfare which does not commend itself to me or other English soldiers.... We cannot win this war unless we kill or incapacitate more of our enemies than they do of us, and if this can only be done by our copying the enemy in his choice of weapons, we must not refuse to do so.”

This is the general argument for justifying the use of controversial tactics where they are used by the other side.

Even Hitler didn't use gas in WW2 as he knew that the Allies would have followed suit and it would have lead to mass anihilation in Germany.
