Hi

I'm a householder after some advice if possible please. I have a vailant eco tec 631 R1 boiler powered by a grasslin towerchron qe1 timer/power supply that is plugged into a switched mains socket

We need to turn the power off in the house to do some work but I am concerned (because the last time the power supply to the grasslin was turned off and back on it blew the boilers PCB)

Should it be safe to turn off/on the power supply to the grasslin, and is there a sequence we should follow in order to completely switch off and then back on the mains (IE turn the boiler to off, then the Grasslin to off, then switch off at the socket) and is there anything I can do to protect the boiler whilst turning the power on/off

Many thanks

If it is wired correctly it should be fine. If this timer has proved problematic in the past why have you not changed it?

Thanks. well its an odd one. It might have just been bad luck for the guy that blew the PCB last time (it happened when he turned it back on after draining the system to install some extra radiators). We then got British Gas in to replace the PCB and their engineer obviously powered it back on successfully following that. So we still dont really know why it blew the first time around. The British Gas engineer did point out a possible bad earth issue so I dont know if that could cause an issue? Is there a correct sequence I should follow to shut it down please?

Power supply best, directly wired into double pole 3A fused outlet. Avoid transient currents by leaving power to boiler switched off until mains power restored.

Just making sure wall thermostat is set low / timer in OFF state (no hot water etc) , so boiler is not active , then throw wall socket switch-off - before turning off house !
Things like motors , hoovers , lots of fluorescent lights being active when main power is cut ,causes surges !
( Surges normally kill things near the end of their use-full life , those parts are new now ! )
