hi all,
just fitted a nice new shiny vanity unit for someone. this thing came all the way from Germany i think. i took one look at it and said "there aint no hole for an overflow"

its a wierd one, it had pre drilled holes for the tap set and the plug hole but no overflow,

it is made from a thick (12ish mm) fibre glass looking material, only one layer thick with no cavity (which rules out the integral overflow option)

the vanity unit came with its own set of taps and waste.

is there a regulation that said it IS mandatory to have an overflow on a basin?

maybe the rules are different in germany but i dont wanna compromise any regs by installing it as to me it seems a little daft not to have an overflow on it.

What do you folks think?

I'm pretty sure it's not in the Water Regs. Just think of all those lovely stone and glass counter-top basins - no overflows there.

came across this in posh pads in dublin. 1000euro hand basins etc. with no over flow.:confused::confused:
kinda like a porshe without seat belts

oh well, when i think about it i have seen a basin in weatherspoons i think which had no overflow, however i was a little worse for wear at the time lol.

it does seem a bit stupid not to have one, but oh well.

cheers guys.

Hi. The regs require the outlet of taps to be above the flood level of the appliance Type "A" air gap i think. Which is the rim not overflow. Good luck
